Indigo Rodríguez is an artist and writer interrogating representation, erasure, and the confrontational nature of normative assumptions. With “inclusive” practices often falling short, he highlights parts of the spectrum of lived experience subject to erasure. His work is an examination of the violence enacted upon individuals with alternative experiences as they are constantly confronted by the assumed norm. He draws upon multiple disciplines to create sculptures and installations—working with materials in disrepair. Through the elevation of eyesores, he brings attention to normative assumptions and challenges what is thought to be worthy of artistic attention.
