Dawn Zalkus Named Illinois Art Educator of the Year

Alumna Dawn Zalkus (BFA in Art Education 2003; MA in Art Education 2006), an educator and artist teaching at Batavia High School in Batavia, has been named Illinois Art Educator of the Year.

Dawn Zalkus Named Illinois Art Educator of the Year

At Batavia High School, Zalkus helped establish a National Art Honor Society chapter, P.L.A.T.E. event, the Rock the Runway Wearable Art Fashion Show, the I Heart Art Invitational Art Show, and the Batavia Fine Arts Festival, and she has developed community partnerships and has fostered participation in many local and national art shows. Zalkus teaches art fundamentals, 3D art, and AP studio art and has continued her education through the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and Columbia College Chicago.
